Trailer Repair

Trailers get neglected until they fail an inspection or strand a load. We handle the structure, the doors, the lighting and the running gear so the trailer is not the reason the truck is parked.

Trailer Repair in Baltimore, MD

Trailers take more physical abuse than tractors and receive a fraction of the attention. Dock impacts crack crossmembers, road salt destroys lighting harnesses, and door hardware bends until the load cannot be secured. Most of that damage is cheap to repair early and expensive to repair late, and much of it is what an inspector looks at first. We work on dry vans, reefers, flatbeds and tankers across the Baltimore metro area, in our bays or at your yard.

Equipment and capability

Our bays take full length trailers, and we carry lighting, harness, door hardware and landing gear components in stock so common repairs do not wait on parts. Welding and fabrication capability is in house, which matters when a dock hit needs a crossmember section replaced rather than patched. Mobile units handle lighting, air leaks, landing gear and door hardware at your yard.

When you need this service

If you recognise any of these, it is worth a call before it becomes a roadside call.

Trailer lights out, intermittent, or failing only when the harness moves

Doors will not close, seal or latch correctly

Floor boards soft, splintered or broken through

Visible damage to a crossmember, rail or side panel after a dock hit

Liftgate will not lift, drift down, or stop where it should

Landing gear jammed, bent, or the crank will not turn

ABS lamp on the trailer stays illuminated

Trailer sits unevenly or an air bag is visibly deflated

How we approach it

The sequence matters as much as the repair. Working through it in this order is what stops you paying for parts the fault never pointed at.

  1. 1

    Full trailer walkaround

We inspect the whole unit rather than only the reported fault, because trailers usually arrive with more than one item due and finding them now is cheaper than finding them at a scale house.

  2. 2

    Separate safety from cosmetic

Findings are split into what makes the trailer illegal or unsafe, what will fail an inspection soon, and what is cosmetic. You approve accordingly.

  3. 3

    Structural work done properly

Welding is done to the correct procedure for the material, with attention to what may be behind the panel. Cutting into a reefer or a tanker without checking first is how small jobs become serious incidents.

  4. 4

    Electrical rebuilt, not patched

Corroded trailer harnesses get replaced rather than spliced repeatedly. On a salt exposed trailer, a full harness is often cheaper over two years than the fifth repair.

  5. 5

    Test the whole system

Lighting tested from the nose box through every lamp, brakes and ABS scanned, doors operated and the trailer released with a written record.

Trailer Lighting Faults That Fail Inspections, and Why They Keep Coming Back

Lighting is one of the top three violation categories and the easiest to prevent. The reason it recurs is that most repairs treat the symptom.

Trailer Repair questions

Drawn from the questions we get asked most about this specific service.

We handle the trailer itself: structure, doors, lighting, brakes, running gear and insulation panels. Refrigeration unit repair on the reefer machine is specialist work and we will refer you to a reefer specialist for the unit while we handle everything else.

Lighting, harness work, air leaks, landing gear, door hardware and brake work are all routine mobile jobs. Structural welding and floor replacement come into the shop.

If you have repaired the same harness more than twice, yes. Salt corrosion travels inside the wire under the insulation, so each repair just moves the fault along. A full harness is usually the cheaper answer over time.

Yes, with the documentation and decal. It is worth booking the inspection with any known repairs at the same visit so the trailer leaves compliant.

Yes, from individual board replacement through to section replacement and crossmember repair. We will tell you honestly when a floor is far enough gone that repair stops making financial sense.

Hardware, hinges and locking bars are often same day. A bent frame or a replacement door panel depends on parts, usually two to four days. Call as soon as it happens and we will get parts moving.
